"Autumn Embers" Encore Azalea is ideal for small gardens and urban plantings near sidewalks since it's even more compact than most Azaleas, reaching a height between two and three feet, with an equal spread of also two to three feet. "Autumn Embers" adds a splash of color and depth to all landscapes and is perfect for single plantings, row plantings, and mass plantings as a hedge. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden."Autumn Embers" is one of the few select members of the gorgeous Encore Azalea series, all of which are prized for blooming in three separate season Spring, Summer, and Autumn! These elegant double-blossoms boast a deep-red, almost scarlet, shade which clashes wonderfully against the dark evergreen foliage enjoyed all year long. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. It matures to an average height of 2 feet to 3 feet and an average width of 3 feet to 4 feet, depending on climate and other environmental factors. It is even sizeable enough that it can be grown alone in a suitable container. Autumn Embers Encore Azalea is a moderate growing shrub that can be grown in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 6B through 10B. Because of its height, it is often used as a 'thriller' in the 'spiller-thriller-filler' container combination plant it near the center of the pot, surrounded by smaller plants and those that spill over the edges. This particular variety is an interspecific hybrid.Įncore® Autumn Embers™ Azalea makes a fine choice for the outdoor landscape, but it is also well-suited for use in outdoor pots and containers. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in winter to protect it in exposed locations or colder microclimates. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution, and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. It is very fussy about its soil conditions and must have rich, acidic soils to ensure success, and is subject to chlorosis (yellowing) of the foliage in alkaline soils. New foliage emerges a gorgeous light green in spring before maturing to a glossy dark green. This orange-red blooming azalea was bred for its cold hardiness and chosen for its naturally rounded growth habit. The Autumn Embers Encore Azalea reaches 3 H and 3.5 W, making it a great choice for a low-maintenance hedge or border. The Encore Ember. It requires an evenly moist well-drained soil for optimal growth, but will die in standing water. You may want to keep it away from hot, dry locations that receive direct afternoon sun or which get reflected sunlight, such as against the south side of a white wall. This shrub does best in full sun to partial shade. It grows at a slow rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 40 years or more. It has no significant negative characteristics.Įncore® Autumn Embers™ Azalea is recommended for the following landscape applications Įncore® Autumn Embers™ Azalea will grow to be about 3 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 4 feet. This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. Its relatively coarse texture can be used to stand it apart from other landscape plants with finer foliage. You don't want to miss out on this exceptional Azalea variety. Open ther serial monitor set at 9600 baud. Let's look again at the serial output as you press the button. If (button_time - last_button_time > 250) check to see if increment() was called in the last 250 milliseconds variables to keep track of the timing of recent interrupts Select the board and COM port for the RedBoard if you have not already. Going back to our old example, let's add in a fix that allows the variable x to only be incremented once each button press instead of multiple times. Another option is to address it in software by temporarily ignoring further interrupts for a small time frame after the first interrupt is triggered. Often you can fix bounce issues with hardware by adding an appropriate RC filter to smooth the transition. A button push might seem like a single step, but in reality the mechanical parts within that button come into contact multiple times before settling into a particular state. While the main transition of the pin is from low to high, during the process, there are several spikes which can cause multiple interrupts. For example, if the interrupt was triggered right in the exact middle of the delay function, the LED would remain lit for about 1.5 seconds after you hit the button. How long the LED stays on depends on where you interrupted the code in the main loop. If you play around with it, you'll notice that the LED stays on for seemingly random amounts of time but never longer than 3 seconds. Then the program returns to wherever it was in the main loop. The code within this function is executed, variable x is incremented, and the LED is turned on. When this happens the function increment is called. In other words, it looks for a voltage change going from logic low ( 0V) to logic high ( 5V), which happens when the button is pressed. Meanwhile, this program watches digital pin 2 (which corresponds to interrupt 0) for a rising edge. The main loop of this program sends an "OFF" signal to the LED every 3 seconds. Interrupt service routine for interrupt 0 Serial.println(x, DEC) //print x to serial monitor Serial.begin(9600) //turn on serial communicationĭelay(3000) //pretend to be doing something useful jump to the increment function on falling edge enable interrupt 0 (pin 2) which is connected to a button Int x = 0 // variable to be updated by the interrupt Int ledPin = 13 // LED is attached to digital pin 13 Select the board and COM port for the RedBoard. Since we are using a RedBoard here, this example uses pin 2 to monitor for interrupts. Arduino also has more details on a handful of boards on their attachInterrupt() page. Some boards have more (like the Arduino Mega 2560) - refer to the user manual or datasheet for more information on what your specific board supports. Most Arduinos have 2 external interrupts built in: interrupt0 (on digital pin 2) and interrupt1 (on digital pin 3). We'll attach an interrupt to pin 2 this pin will monitor a button that will send an "On" signal to the LED when pressed and increment a counter. Now that we've got our hardware hooked up, let's look at a simple example that continuously sends an "Off" signal to an LED. If this is your first time using Arduino, please review our tutorial on installing the Arduino IDE. The programmer defines the code that is to be executed when a particular interrupt occurs within the program itself. When the event or interrupt happens, the processor takes immediate notice, saves its execution state, runs a small chunk of code (often called the interrupt handler or interrupt service routine), and then returns back to whatever it was doing before. Most ATV dealers are able to source the conversion kit. “Tracks are an excellent alternative to a sled provided you have realistic expectations that there will be differences in handling and capabilities.” - Wayne Mercer Photo courtesy Wayne Mercer If you’ve been searching for essential details regarding swapping out wheels for tracks on your ATV, look no further. Mercer often rides his tracked ATV with friends who have sleds on groomed snowmobile trails. To guide us through this process, we’ve enlisted Wayne Mercer, member of the Kootenay Rockies ATV Club and the Cranbrook Snowmobile Club. This time, we’re getting into the nitty-gritty of how to attach tracks onto your ATV, with even more reasons why it’s worth the effort. In the past, we here at SnoRiders have explored several benefits that come from swapping out an ATV's wheels with tracks, such as improved stability, accessibility for the elderly and the ability to use the machine year-round. Further, they are often captured under variant illuminations and view angles. They appear in multiple patterns and are attached onto all kinds of surfaces, such as signage boards, walls, cars, and objects. Firstly, it is difficult to predict the fonts, sizes, colors, and deformations of text characters and strings in natural scenes. However, extracting text from natural scene images must solve three challenging problems. Text information plays a significant role in many applications including assistive navigation, image-based search, object recognition, scene understanding, and geocoding, etc., because it provides more descriptive and abstract information beyond intuitive perception of other objects. The evaluation results on benchmark datasets demonstrate that our algorithm achieves the state-of-the-art performance on scene text classification and detection, and significantly outperforms the existing algorithms for character identification. We perform three groups of experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm, including text classification, text detection, and character identification. The contributions of this paper include three aspects: 1) a new character appearance model by a structure correlation algorithm which extracts discriminative appearance features from detected interest points of character samples 2) a new text descriptor based on structons and correlatons, which model character structure by structure differences among character samples and structure component co-occurrence and 3) a new text region localization method by combining color decomposition, character contour refinement, and string line alignment to localize character candidates and refine detected text regions. Our proposed algorithm is able to model both character appearance and structure to generate representative and discriminative text descriptors. Scene text classification and detection are still open research topics. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to detect text information from natural scene images.
